Hello, I am Choi Yeon-seung, a Traditional Korean Medicine doctor at Baekrokdam Korean Medicine Clinic.

The Emotional Weight of "It feels like my blood isn't flowing"

"Doctor, I feel like my blood isn't flowing." This is a phrase I often hear in the consultation room.

However, if we look closely at this single sentence, it's not merely referring to a vascular problem. It's the language of sensation and an expression of emotion.

The Body's Flow and Sensation

When the body feels like something has been cut off internally, or when its flow feels abnormal, people say: "It feels like my blood isn't flowing."

This isn't a pathological diagnosis. Rather, it's a vague yet clear declaration of a sensation that some flow is blocked, that something feels stagnant or constricted, and that I'm not in my proper place within my own body.

These sensations can also be expressed as: "It's itchy," "My head feels foggy," "My energy feels floaty/ungrounded," "My legs don't feel like my own," or "I can't take a deep breath."

Numbness/Tingling in the Feet – Signals from the Extremities

"My feet are tingling even though I've just been sitting still." "I haven't really hurt myself, but I feel a sharp, uncomfortable sensation."

Hearing these expressions, one realizes that the body's first signals always originate from the farthest points: the tips of the toes, the termini of blood vessels and nerve endings, the farthest points from the heart.

Sharp Sensations in the Legs – The Borderline of Sensation and Tension

"I feel a sharp, electric-like sensation running down my legs." "It's not exactly painful, but I feel a strange, sharp sensation when I sit down."

Many people use "numbness/tingling" (저림) and "sharp sensation" (찌릿함) interchangeably, but in fact, these two are completely different sensations.

Cold Hands and Dull Sensation – When the Flow Disappears

"My fingertips are so cold." "My sensation feels subtly dull, yet it's not entirely numb."

The faces of those who express this often reflect an emotion of something having drifted away or become distant.

Brain Fog – A Sensation of Stagnant Flow in the Head

"My head feels foggy, and I can't think of anything." "It feels like something is full, yet also empty."

Frequent Headaches – The Language of Trapped Pressure

"It feels like my head is being pressed down tightly." "The top of my head feels heavy, and I also feel a pulling sensation above my eyes."

Itchiness and Prickling Sensations – When the Flow Ripples on the Surface

"It's prickly and hard to bear." "There's nothing visible on my skin, but I can't stop touching/scratching it."

Frequent Dizziness – When the Vertical Balance is Lost

"I feel lightheaded and spinning even when I'm still." "When I sit up or stand up, the world feels like it's slightly tilted."

Amidst these Sensations of Non-Flow, We See Where the Stoppage Lies

The sensation of poor blood circulation. This is not merely a story about the flow of blood as a liquid.
