To those awaiting the birth of life

Hello, this is Yeonseung Choi, the lead doctor at Baengnokdam Korean Medicine Clinic. To those who yearn for a child, I first extend my warmest comfort. I understand the weight of your worries: the shock of an infertility diagnosis, the deepening sense of loss over time, the scrutiny from others, and the emotional burden you carry. For 16 years, I have practiced Korean medicine, dedicated to helping couples embrace their little angels. Baengnokdam Korean Medicine Clinic will accompany you on this long journey to find a solution together.

Am I alone in this struggle?

"It's almost been two years since we got married, and there's still no baby news. People around us say it's not easy to have a child, but are we the only couple facing this? The monthly menstrual pain also weighs heavily on my mind."

Infertility is no longer an unfamiliar condition. Approximately 15% of couples in Korea are reportedly struggling with infertility. Various factors, such as ovulatory dysfunction, endometriosis, and diminished ovarian reserve syndrome, make it difficult to conceive. If conception does not occur after one year or more of regular, unprotected intercourse, infertility should be suspected.

Various Causes of Infertility

Infertility can broadly be classified into ovulatory dysfunction, tubal factors, uterine factors, cervical factors, and immunological factors. Beyond these reproductive organ issues, systemic health problems like thyroid disease, diabetes, and autoimmune disorders can also cause infertility. Lifestyle factors such as frequent alcohol consumption and smoking, excessive stress, lack of exercise, and nutritional imbalance cannot be overlooked. Infertility is not solely a female issue; male factors account for approximately 40% of cases, so both partners need to pay attention.

Finding the Causes of Infertility

While the causes of infertility vary from person to person, irregular modern lifestyles and excessive stress are cited as major contributing factors. Lack of sleep due to frequent late-night work and social gatherings, as well as endocrine imbalance caused by overwork and stress, interfere with normal ovulation. Furthermore, nutritional imbalance from poor eating habits and lack of exercise diminish reproductive function. Lifestyle habits such as alcohol consumption, smoking, and drug use reduce the quality of sperm and eggs, thereby decreasing fertilization capacity.

Infertility, Seen Through Korean Medicine

In Korean medicine, the causes of infertility are largely attributed to issues with the Kidney (腎), Liver (肝), Spleen (脾), and Phlegm (痰) organ systems. The Kidney forms the foundation of innate reproductive energy, while the Liver harmonizes the circulation of Qi and Blood. The Spleen generates and transports Qi and Blood, and Phlegm refers to waste products that obstruct the circulation of Qi and Blood. When these organ systems dysfunction, problems arise in the uterus and ovaries, leading to infertility.

Korean medicine also places significant importance on psychological factors. Conditions such as Liver Qi stagnation due to stress and depletion of the heart and mind due to depression impede the circulation of Qi and Blood and worsen the uterine environment. This is why restoring harmony between mind and body is a prerequisite for infertility treatment.

How Do We Treat Infertility?

At Baengnokdam Korean Medicine Clinic, we treat the root causes of infertility according to each patient's constitution and symptoms. First, we administer herbal medicine to improve Qi and Blood circulation and restore organ system function. We enhance the uterine environment with herbs that eliminate stagnant blood (eoyeol) and replenish Kidney Qi (shin-gi). Additionally, pharmacopuncture directly targets the uterus and ovaries to promote local circulation, while moxibustion and cupping warm the lower abdomen (hacho) to invigorate Qi and Blood.

Furthermore, we help patients regain a healthy mind and body through lifestyle improvements. We guide them to maintain a healthy weight with regular exercise and a balanced diet, and we provide stress-relief methods to foster psychological stability. Through this lifestyle management and consistent treatment, we create an optimal state for pregnancy.

We will be with you until you embrace a healthy baby

Baengnokdam Korean Medicine Clinic provides personalized treatment based on 16 years of accumulated expertise working with couples experiencing infertility. Our ultimate goal is not merely successful conception, but also the delivery of a healthy baby and the formation of a happy family. We promise delicate care that addresses the psychological anxiety and stress couples may experience throughout the treatment process.

In particular, I utilize my comprehensive knowledge of classical and modern Korean medicine to offer a wider range of treatments. By reviving traditional prescriptions to achieve remarkable effects while incorporating the latest research trends, we ensure safety and scientific validity. We will find the most optimized treatment protocol for each individual patient to break the cycle of infertility.

The unwavering heart creates miracles

"After 7 years of marriage, we finally had a baby. I'm proud of myself for enduring the difficult times, and I'm grateful to the doctor who stayed with us and never gave up. Now we have one more precious story to tell our baby."

Lifestyle Management Starting with Small Practices

Alongside infertility treatment, daily lifestyle management is essential. Maintain a regular daily rhythm and a healthy weight through a balanced diet. Moderate exercise is also beneficial for promoting Qi and Blood circulation. Please engage in consistent, non-strenuous activities such as yoga, Pilates, or walking.

Furthermore, how about trying meditation, breathing exercises, or hobbies to relieve stress? Limit coffee, alcohol, and tobacco, and establish regular sleeping habits. If both partners work together, lifestyle management will become easier. We believe that small practices will accumulate to create miraculous moments.

Raise the sails of hope towards new life

The time spent traversing the tunnel of infertility may not be easy, but do not give up. Your earnest desire for a child is valuable in itself. A woman's body, capable of conceiving life, is a wondrous and mysterious existence. Trusting your body and not losing hope will be your greatest strength in overcoming infertility.

Baengnokdam Korean Medicine Clinic aims to be a trustworthy pillar of support during these difficult times. As a Korean medicine doctor, I will do my utmost to guide you toward a healthy pregnancy. Until the day you hold your child in your arms, you will never walk alone. To all of you reading this post, I wish for you to unfurl the sails of hope towards new life.
