I live in a small town without a traditional Korean medicine clinic. Can I receive diet herbal medicine through a telemedicine consultation?

Yes, it is possible. Telemedicine reduces time and location constraints, allowing both initial and follow-up consultations to be conducted online. However, since pulse diagnosis and physical palpation are not possible, diagnostic accuracy may be lower for patients without clear symptoms such as constipation or edema. It is advisable to consult sufficiently with a Korean medicine doctor before deciding.
The possibility is open. I often meet people who are concerned because there is no Korean medicine clinic in their neighborhood, and telemedicine has proven quite useful for them. The advantage of telemedicine is that it significantly reduces time and space constraints. You can have a consultation during your commute or lunch break, and the medication is delivered to your home, minimizing hassle. Additionally, if you gradually assess your constitution and condition through photos and medical history from the initial consultation, follow-ups can provide even more personalized advice. However, there are clear drawbacks. An important aspect of Korean medicine is pulse diagnosis (脈診), which cannot be performed remotely. For conditions like 'spleen deficiency (脾虛)', you can only indirectly infer whether digestive function is weakened, or for 'phlegm-fluid (痰飮)', whether there is excess moisture in the body. While we carefully check body shape changes and skin condition via photos, it is sometimes difficult to differentiate between edema and muscle without physical palpation. I have had cases early on where I regretted not being able to see the patient in person. Ultimately, it depends on the situation. If the body sends clear signals (e.g., ravenous appetite, menstrual irregularities, severe bloating) and the patient can describe symptoms well, telemedicine can be effective. On the other hand, if you simply feel 'a bit overweight' without specific symptoms, visiting a clinic for pulse and abdominal diagnosis (腹診) will improve diagnostic accuracy. Rather than giving a definitive yes or no, I recommend first calling a nearby Korean medicine clinic to check if telemedicine is available and whether initial consultations can be done remotely.
