I know firsthand how overwhelming it can be to schedule a clinic visit during a busy work week. Fortunately, current guidelines from the Ministry of Health and Welfare have opened the door for remote consultations and prescriptions. The greatest advantage of telemedicine is the freedom of time and space, allowing you to receive a personalized herbal prescription during your lunch break or after work, regardless of where you live. However, as a practitioner, I do recognize certain limitations in Traditional Korean Medicine (TKM) when not meeting in person. The most significant is the inability to perform a direct pulse diagnosis (Jinmaek), a cornerstone of TKM. Visual inspection (Mangjin) is also limited to digital photos. To accurately identify internal issues such as 'Dameum' (metabolic waste/phlegm-fluid) or 'Biheo' (Spleen deficiency), I conduct much more rigorous and detailed medical inquiries (Munjin) than I would in person. Ultimately, the precision of a remote prescription depends on the depth of our communication. While a face-to-face visit is the most accurate, telemedicine is a wise and proactive way to care for your body when your circumstances don't allow for travel.
