What is the difference between conventional dieting using frozen chicken breast or shakes and a Traditional Korean Medicine (TKM) diet? I’m having trouble deciding which one is better for me.

Dieting can be incredibly challenging. While conventional diet foods focus on controlling external factors like calories, Traditional Korean Medicine (TKM) dieting concentrates on transforming the internal environment of your body that leads to weight gain. Rather than one being objectively superior, it is most important to choose a method that aligns with your specific metabolic state and constitution to ensure sustainable results.

It is common to start a diet by stocking the freezer with chicken breast, only to hit a frustrating plateau. While conventional diet foods provide excellent nutritional profiles, they often fail to answer why some individuals gain weight despite eating very little. In Traditional Korean Medicine (TKM), this is often attributed to 'Spleen Qi Deficiency' (脾虛). When the Spleen—responsible for digestive transport—weakens, metabolic waste such as 'Phlegm-Dampness' (痰飮) and 'Blood Stasis' (瘀血) accumulates, hindering circulation and fat metabolism. | Category | Conventional/Calorie Diet | TKM Diet (Baengnokdam) | | :--- | :--- | :--- | | **Core Principle** | Forced calorie restriction | Improvement of metabolism & circulation | | **Pros** | Convenient and easy to purchase | Personalized constitutional prescriptions | | **Limitations** | Risk of lowering Basal Metabolic Rate (BMR) | Initial professional diagnosis is essential | | **Primary Focus** | External food control | Strengthening internal organ functions | | **Management** | Potential for nutritional imbalance | Continuous consultation with a TKM doctor | | **Yo-yo Prevention** | Relies heavily on individual willpower | Maintains homeostasis through constitutional improvement | Herbal medicine is not merely an appetite suppressant. It is designed to replenish depleted 'Qi' (energy) and boost the body's natural fat-burning capacity. Our goal is to enable your body to utilize energy efficiently even without relying solely on restrictive foods. It is a journey of 'healthy emptying' rather than 'harsh starving.' We should first determine whether your body is currently depleted of energy or blocked by accumulated metabolic waste.
