What exactly is the difference between herbal weight loss and methods like western diet medications or starvation?

While western medications or extreme fasting provide rapid appetite suppression, they often lead to lethargy and a high risk of the yo-yo effect. In contrast, Traditional Korean Medicine (TKM) focuses on boosting metabolic function rather than mere restriction, aiming to transform the body from one that 'starves' to one that 'burns' efficiently through personalized constitution-based prescriptions.

Many patients ask, "Isn't it all just about eating less in the end?" However, the human body is highly sensitive; suppressing appetite indiscriminately can trigger a 'survival mode' response, often leading to binge eating later. In TKM, weight gain is viewed not simply as a calorie issue, but as a problem of 'stagnation.' When abnormal fluid accumulations (Dameum/痰飮) or stagnant blood (Eohyeol/瘀血) build up, metabolism slows down, making it easy to gain weight even with minimal intake. If this is coupled with Spleen Deficiency (Bi-heo/脾虛), a vicious cycle occurs where energy drops while the body continues to swell. Therefore, TKM prescriptions do not simply shut down appetite. We use medicinal herbs to clear metabolic waste and revitalize Spleen function. It is like servicing a car's engine—changing the oil and removing sludge so the car can run on its own—rather than just flooring the accelerator in a broken vehicle. While herbal medicine is not a magic cure, managing weight by identifying your specific body type and filling nutritional gaps makes the process significantly less grueling and more sustainable. Our goal is to identify where the 'stagnation' is occurring in your body and resolve it for healthy weight management.
