I live in Geoje Island. Is it possible to get a prescription for weight-loss herbal medicine through a remote consultation instead of visiting the clinic in person?

Yes, it is certainly possible. For busy individuals, saving travel time is a significant advantage. However, as a practitioner, I find it regrettable that pulse diagnosis (診脈), where I personally check your wrist, is omitted. Since there are clear pros and cons, you can choose the method that best suits your situation. Even through a remote consultation, I will conduct a very thorough medical inquiry to meticulously assess your physical condition before providing a prescription.

I personally love Geoje Island, but I understand it is quite far. Remote prescriptions are indeed possible and have become very convenient. The primary advantage is accessibility; traveling from Geoje to a major city for a clinic visit can be as taxing as endurance training. It is often more beneficial to spend that energy on rest or exercise. Furthermore, the process of filling out a questionnaire and having a phone consultation allows you to calmly reflect on your dietary habits and lifestyle. However, there are inherent limitations. In Traditional Korean Medicine (TKM), we rely on the 'Four Diagnostic Methods' (望聞問切). Missing the 'Palpation' (切) stage—specifically the pulse diagnosis—is a significant hurdle for a practitioner. The pulse allows us to determine the depth of 'Blood Stasis' (瘀血, stagnant or impure blood) or whether 'Phlegm-rheum' (痰飮, metabolic waste) is the underlying cause of edema. Additionally, for patients with 'Spleen Deficiency' (脾虛) and weakened digestion, evaluating the complexion or 'Tongue Diagnosis' (舌診) via a screen has its limits. If you are generally healthy but extremely busy, remote consultation is a very rational choice. However, if you have underlying health conditions or a highly sensitive constitution, I recommend an in-person visit for at least the initial consultation. Let's start by discussing your current health status to find the best approach for you.
