Pros & Cons of Remote Care
Pros & Cons of Remote Care

Q. I live in Pocheon. Is it possible to receive a prescription for weight-loss herbal medicine through a remote consultation without visiting the clinic in person?

A.

Yes, you can receive a remote prescription via phone or video call from Pocheon or anywhere nationwide. While it is an excellent way to save time in a busy schedule, as a practitioner, I find it regrettable that I cannot perform a direct pulse diagnosis in the consultation room. Please choose the method that best suits your health status and current circumstances.

📝 Detailed Answer

It is quite a distance from Pocheon, and I understand the exhaustion of traveling long distances to find a renowned clinic. Currently, under medical guidelines, both remote consultations and herbal medicine prescriptions are available, so you don't have to worry. The advantages of telemedicine are clear: you save significant time without needing to take leave from work, as you can consult during lunch or after hours. Patients also tend to be more honest about their eating habits when speaking from the comfort of their own homes. However, I must be honest about the limitations. We cannot perform pulse diagnosis (Jin-maek) or abdominal palpation (Bok-jin), which are core to Traditional Korean Medicine diagnostics. Not being able to personally feel Dampness-Phlegm (Dam-eum) or Blood Stasis (Eo-hyeol) through my fingertips is a challenge for a practitioner. To compensate for this, I conduct very thorough interviews during remote sessions. I ask detailed questions to identify symptoms of Spleen Deficiency (Bi-heo) or the degree of edema to fill that diagnostic gap. If your constitution is particularly sensitive or you have complex underlying conditions, I recommend visiting in person for the initial consultation. However, if your priority is consistent medication within a busy lifestyle, telemedicine is an excellent alternative. Let’s choose the option that causes you the least stress based on your situation.
