I’m thinking about eating only chicken breast for my diet. From a Traditional Korean Medicine perspective, what is your opinion? Do you recommend it?

Chicken breast is excellent for preserving muscle due to its high protein content, but those with weak digestion may experience significant bloating. While it provides satiety and tonifies Qi, it can also lead to constipation or gastrointestinal disorders. It is wisest to adjust your intake based on your digestive capacity.

In Traditional Korean Medicine (TKM), chicken is categorized as having a 'warm nature,' making it a valuable medicinal food that tonifies Qi (vital energy). Its low fat content helps maintain clean blood circulation and preserves muscle mass, which is particularly beneficial during a demanding diet. However, there are clear drawbacks to a mono-diet of chicken breast. Relying solely on this dense protein can lead to 'Spleen Deficiency' (Bi-heo), where the digestive function becomes overburdened and weakened. Patients with naturally weak digestive systems often find themselves feeling lethargic because their body spends excessive energy trying to break down the protein. Furthermore, the lack of dietary fiber can lead to the accumulation of 'phlegm-fluid' (Dam-eum)—metabolic waste that often manifests as constipation. Rather than a chicken-only approach, I recommend incorporating white-fleshed fish or tofu if you experience indigestion. To maintain the harmony between the 'Fire' and 'Water' energies in your body, always pair your protein with plenty of fresh vegetables to ease the burden on your intestines and ensure a sustainable, healthy weight loss journey.
