I'm planning to eat chicken breast rice bowls frequently for my diet. From a Korean Medicine perspective, is this something you would recommend?

Chicken breast bowls are an excellent choice for fulfilling protein needs and managing portion sizes. However, consuming only dry, lean protein can lead to Spleen Qi Deficiency (脾虛), which weakens the digestive system and may inadvertently slow down your metabolism. To prevent this, it is crucial to incorporate warm-natured vegetables that suit your specific constitution and digestive capacity. Balancing the components is the key to a healthy diet.

Managing a diet can be quite challenging. I’ve personally experienced indigestion and lightheadedness after rushing through a chicken breast pack between patient consultations at the clinic. From a clinical perspective, chicken breast bowls are a strategic choice; they provide high-quality protein to maintain muscle mass and replenish Qi (vital energy), which often gets depleted during weight loss. However, consistently eating dry, lean meat can strain the digestive system, a condition we call Spleen Deficiency (脾虛). When the Spleen's transformative function weakens, nutrients are not converted into energy but instead turn into 'Phlegm-fluid' (痰飮)—metabolic waste and dampness that accumulate in the body. This explains why some people experience swelling or weight plateaus even when eating very little. Furthermore, sauces that are excessively sweet or salty can obstruct the body’s internal circulation. I recommend adding plenty of cooked, warm-natured vegetables and using seasonings like ginger or garlic to stimulate digestion and warm the stomach. Since the ideal ingredients vary depending on whether your constitution (Sasang type) tends toward 'cold' or 'hot,' finding the right balance for your unique metabolic state is vital for long-term success. At Baengnokdam, we are here to help you customize a diet plan that truly works for your body's specific needs.
