I've heard that the perilla oil diet is very popular these days. What is your professional opinion on it? Is it a method you would actually recommend?

Perilla oil is rich in Omega-3 fatty acids, which are excellent for improving blood circulation and reducing inflammation. However, because it is an oil, it is high in calories and prone to becoming rancid quickly. Rather than consuming it blindly, you should first consider your digestive health and constitution. Those with a weak stomach may experience digestive distress if they consume too much, so it is important to enjoy it in moderation.

I have personally tried taking a spoonful of raw perilla oil every morning to improve my health, but I found that it made my stomach feel quite greasy and left me feeling lightheaded for a while. This experience reminded me that every individual's body reacts differently depending on their constitution. Looking at the benefits, the rich Omega-3 content in perilla oil is very beneficial. In Traditional Korean Medicine (TKM), perilla oil is often used to resolve 'Eohyeol' (瘀血), a state where stagnant blood clusters and hinders healthy circulation. When the blood is cleared, systemic circulation improves, creating an ideal environment for expelling metabolic waste. Additionally, as a fat source, it provides a lasting sense of satiety. However, there are clear points of caution. Being an oil, it is high in calories, so you may inadvertently gain weight if you consume it without restraint. Furthermore, if stored improperly, it can oxidize (become rancid) quickly, which can be harmful to the body. In TKM terms, those with 'Biheo' (脾虛, Spleen Deficiency)—a condition where digestive functions are weakened—often struggle to digest oils, which can lead to diarrhea or abdominal bloating. There is no single food that is a 'correct answer' for everyone. Your priority should be checking whether your stomach can tolerate the oiliness and assessing your overall digestive capacity. I recommend starting with a very small amount and gradually adjusting the dosage while observing your body's reaction.
