What the clinic checks first
We check for daily persistent dry eyes and mouth, dental caries, salivary gland swelling, and systemic symptoms.
Ophthalmological exams are used to evaluate tear volume and damage to the cornea and conjunctiva.
The amount of saliva produced over a set period and the condition of the salivary glands can be verified.
We look for autoimmune evidence such as anti-Ro/SSA, but a conclusion is not drawn based on a single result.
Blood cell counts, inflammatory markers, and kidney, liver, and urine tests are checked according to the symptoms.
If necessary, ultrasound or minor salivary gland biopsy is used to supplement the diagnostic evidence.
List all prescription drugs, over-the-counter medications, and supplements that may cause dryness.
Gather history of artificial tear use, corneal damage, dental caries, and oral infections.
Organize symptoms of fatigue, joint pain, Raynaud's phenomenon, numbness, and respiratory issues in chronological order.
Rheumatology coordinates the overall diagnosis, while ophthalmology and dentistry can provide objective examinations of the eyes and mouth.

It is selectively considered when medical history, eye, salivary, and blood test results are insufficient.
