These days, Pu'er tea diet is trending. How does your Korean Medicine clinic approach it?

Pu'er tea can help flush out waste from the body, but its effects vary greatly depending on one's constitution. At our clinic, we don't rely on tea alone. We first assess the patient's metabolic capacity, then combine it with a tailored herbal prescription to improve efficiency. The key is to adjust according to your body's condition rather than blindly following trends.

I used to try every trendy diet method myself and made quite a few mistakes. What I learned is that even the best tea has vastly different effects depending on how well your body can receive it. At our clinic, we approach Pu'er tea diet step by step: 1. Check Qi and Blood status: We first assess how much phlegm-fluid retention (痰飮, unnecessary waste accumulated in the body) is present. If there is too much waste, drinking tea alone won't be enough. 2. Evaluate digestive absorption: For those with Spleen deficiency (脾虛) — weak spleen function leading to poor digestion — cooling teas can actually burden the system. We address this deficiency first. 3. Customize herbal combinations: We prescribe herbs that work well with Pu'er tea, especially those that resolve Blood stasis (瘀血, stagnant blood) to improve circulation and boost metabolism. 4. Guide constitution-specific drinking methods: We advise whether to drink it warm, before or after meals, based on the individual's constitution. Ultimately, the core question is: 'Is my body ready to receive this component right now?' Rather than blindly chasing trends, I hope you will first consider filling what is lacking in your body and clearing what is blocked.
