Lost Voice and Constant Throat Clearing | Incheon Reflux Laryngitis

Hello, this is Baekrokdam Korean Medicine Clinic. Today, we'd like to talk about
Korean Medicine for Liver Health, prepared for those struggling with chronic fatigue.
The liver is our body's detoxification organ, playing a crucial role in processing toxins that enter from outside and waste products generated within the body. Furthermore, it performs various functions such as storing nutrients ingested through food and supplying them where needed, and producing bile to aid digestion.

Therefore, if liver function declines, various symptoms such as fatigue, indigestion, skin problems, and weakened immunity can appear. Modern people, in particular, are susceptible to threatened liver health due to excessive work, stress, irregular eating habits, and alcohol consumption.

To address these chronic fatigue and liver health issues, Baekrokdam Korean Medicine Clinic offers Korean medicine treatments that strengthen liver function and promote overall health.

The liver health Korean medicine prescribed at our clinic is
custom-prepared, tailored to each patient's individual constitution and symptoms. We carefully select and use medicinal herbs effective in lowering liver heat, strengthening detoxification functions,
aiding liver cell regeneration, and effectively relieving fatigue.

Along with Korean medicine treatment, improving daily lifestyle habits is also important.
Maintaining healthy lifestyle habits such as sufficient rest, a balanced diet, regular exercise, and abstinence from alcohol
is greatly beneficial for liver health.

If you are struggling with chronic fatigue or liver health issues,
please visit Baekrokdam Korean Medicine Clinic for a consultation anytime.
We wish you a healthy liver and a vibrant life.
View original blog post

Lump in the Throat & Dry Cough | Incheon Globus Sensation

Hello, this is Baeknokdam Korean Medicine Clinic. Baeknokdam Korean Medicine Clinic is located near Jeju National University Hospital. It's located right in the adjacent building.

Today, I'd like to share my dental treatment review from last week.

I had gum treatment and wisdom tooth extraction due to gum inflammation and loose teeth. The gum treatment was performed along with dental scaling, and because it was a relatively straightforward wisdom tooth extraction (not an impacted wisdom tooth), the post-extraction pain wasn't too severe.

However, I experienced discomfort and pain for about a week after the dental treatment. Since many patients who regularly receive acupuncture treatment at Baeknokdam Korean Medicine Clinic also visit us for TMJ pain or masticatory muscle pain after dental procedures, I wanted to share my experience.

Dental treatments often involve applying pressure inside the mouth, and prolonged periods of keeping the mouth open can place significant strain on the temporomandibular joint (TMJ).

If the TMJ is overstressed, it can lead to conditions such as TMJ inflammation, TMJ disc displacement, and muscle pain around the temporomandibular joint.

Symptoms that may appear due to TMJ and surrounding muscle pain after dental treatment include:

Pain when opening the mouth

Clicking, popping, or grinding sounds from the jaw joint when opening the mouth

TMJ pain when yawning

Stiffness and pain in the muscles around the jaw

Headaches, facial pain

TMJ pain when chewing food

Ear pain, tinnitus

Neck and shoulder pain

While pain around the TMJ often improves naturally over time, active treatment may be necessary if symptoms persist or worsen.

If you experience TMJ pain or masticatory muscle pain after dental treatment, effective treatment is available at Baeknokdam Korean Medicine Clinic through acupuncture, pharmacoacupuncture, and herbal medicine.

Acupuncture helps relax tense muscles around the TMJ and alleviates pain, while pharmacoacupuncture directly injects herbal medicine ingredients with anti-inflammatory and analgesic effects to help reduce inflammation and improve pain. Additionally, herbal medicine helps improve circulation around the TMJ and boosts immunity, aiding in the recovery from TMJ disorders.

If you are experiencing discomfort due to TMJ pain or masticatory muscle pain after dental treatment, we recommend visiting Baeknokdam Korean Medicine Clinic for a consultation.

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact Baeknokdam Korean Medicine Clinic at any time.

Thank you.

Hoarse Voice, Why Do I Lose My Voice? Hyangseongpajukhwan?

Hello, this is Korean Medicine Doctor Choi Yeon-seung from Baengnokdam Korean Medicine Clinic. As the weather gets colder, many patients experience a drop in immunity, leading to colds, or worsening of atopic dermatitis, rhinitis, asthma, etc. Today, we will look into why one easily catches a cold in winter, or why colds last a long time once caught.

Our Body's Immunity Immunity refers to our body's power to protect itself and resist external invasion. When immunity is normal, even if a cold virus invades, one does not easily get sick, and even if one does, the symptoms are not severe and heal quickly. However, when immunity is lowered, one easily gets infected by even minor viruses, and once infected, symptoms can be severe and long-lasting.

Reasons for Decreased Immunity in Winter In winter, as temperatures drop and the indoor-outdoor temperature difference widens, our body's immunity tends to weaken. Cold air stimulates the nasal mucosa, causing inflammation and weakening the defense of the respiratory mucosa. Also, dry indoor air dries out the respiratory mucosa, making it easy for viruses to penetrate.

How to Prevent Winter Colds and Boost Immunity The following efforts are needed to prevent winter colds and boost immunity.

1. Sufficient Rest and Sleep Accumulated fatigue can lower immunity, so it is important to get sufficient rest and sleep. For adults, 7-8 hours of sleep per day is recommended.

2. Regular Exercise Regular exercise of moderate intensity helps boost immunity. However, excessive exercise can actually lower immunity, so caution is needed.

3. Nutritious Diet It is important to maintain a balanced diet, such as consuming vegetables and fruits rich in vitamins and minerals, and sufficiently supplementing protein. Vitamin C, in particular, is known to be effective in strengthening immunity.

4. Maintain Indoor Humidity Dry indoor air dries out the respiratory mucosa, making it easy for viruses to penetrate. It is advisable to maintain indoor humidity at 50-60% using a humidifier or similar.

5. Dress Warmly When body temperature drops, immunity also decreases. Dress warmly and maintain body temperature to prevent immunity from dropping.

6. Traditional Korean Medicine Good for Boosting Immunity Immunity can be strengthened by taking Traditional Korean Medicine tailored to individual constitutions and symptoms. Traditional Korean Medicine goes beyond simply treating colds; it balances the entire body and fosters its natural healing power.

Baengnokdam Korean Medicine Clinic is doing its best to boost the immunity of its patients. If you are suffering from colds, atopic dermatitis, rhinitis, asthma, etc., please feel free to visit us anytime.

Thank you.

What Causes Whole Body Chills and Aches? (Whole Body Chills After Surgery in a Woman in Her 40s)

A woman in her early 40s. An elementary school teacher, she had an extensive history of hospital visits meticulously recorded in her medical chart. Her tongue was overall pale and had a thin white coat, and her pulse was deep and thready, as if sunken deep in water. It was a clear sign that her body's energy was deeply dormant....

That 'falling out' feeling? Pelvic pain? What's the cause?

안녕하세요, 백록담한의원 한의사 최연승입니다.
While treating patients, I often hear the question, ‘I'm told to keep my abdomen warm, so why shouldn't I apply moxibustion to my abdomen?’
This question actually stems from a misunderstanding that Korean medicine clinics don't apply moxibustion to the abdomen.

You shouldn't apply moxibustion to your abdomen? That's a misunderstanding!

To get straight to the point, in Korean medicine clinics, we frequently apply moxibustion to the abdomen. In fact, abdominal moxibustion therapy is one of the most important treatment methods.
That said, it is best to avoid applying moxibustion directly to the navel.

Then why did the saying "Do not apply moxibustion to the navel" come about?
This is probably because in the past, there were many cases of burns from applying mugwort moxibustion.
The area around the navel has thin and sensitive skin and is deeply recessed, making it vulnerable to burns.
Furthermore, the navel is where the umbilical cord was connected, and in traditional Korean medicine, it is an important acupoint called 'Shenque' (神闕).
The Shenque acupoint carries the meaning of being a gate through which 'Shen' (神), the source of life, passes,
and is known as an acupoint that greatly influences the flow of Qi and Blood throughout the body and the functions of the internal organs.
Therefore, greater caution must be exercised when directly stimulating the navel area.

However, in modern Korean medicine, various moxibustion treatment methods have been developed that address these issues.
There are many methods, such as indirect moxibustion and warm moxibustion, that can effectively provide thermal stimulation to the Shenque acupoint and surrounding acupoints while minimizing the risk of burns.
What causes back stiffness?

You just woke up, and suddenly you're hit with a sharp pain in your back, like a knife has been plunged in, making you cry out 'ouch!' That jabbing, stiff feeling you get even with every breath, every turn of your head. In Korea, we commonly refer to this condition as '담 걸렸다' (dam geollyeotda), which is essentially a muscle knot or spasm. What on earth is going on in your back? Many people dismiss these muscle knots as something that just lasts a day or two...
