I gasp for breath, and my hands and feet cramp and I feel dizzy (Hyperventilation).

This is a condition (hyperventilation syndrome) where excessive stress or fear causes you to breathe too rapidly, leading to insufficient carbon dioxide in your blood. Re-breathing your exhaled air into a bag held over your mouth can help you calm down. Psychological treatment is fundamental.
